I wanted to focus on the visual style of blowing these paintings up to a full spread, cutting them up, and harmonizing them with the nearby text. This draws the eye of the viewer to really look at the details of the paintings, rather than seeing them whole as their original 6x6 format. The entire book is comprised of one long interview, which I split into several sections based off of the flow of the topics discussed. Overall, I hoped for this book to be exciting and colorful, and for the viewer to end with a new appreciation for the details of Birch’s paintings.
